Uterine Fibroids

condition

Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years.

Symptoms

  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Prolonged periods
  • Pelvic pain or pressure
  • Frequent urination
  • Difficulty emptying the bladder

Treatment:

  • Medications: Non-hormonal treatments such as tranexamic acid and Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as mefenamic acid, and hormonal treatments such as birth control pills can help with the symptoms caused by uterine fibroids.
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures: Uterine artery embolisation cuts off the blood supply to fibroids, causing them to shrink.
  • Surgery: Myomectomy (removal of fibroids) or hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) may be options for severe cases.
