Uterine Fibroids
Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years.
Symptoms
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
- Prolonged periods
- Pelvic pain or pressure
- Frequent urination
- Difficulty emptying the bladder
Treatment:
- Medications: Non-hormonal treatments such as tranexamic acid and Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as mefenamic acid, and hormonal treatments such as birth control pills can help with the symptoms caused by uterine fibroids.
- Minimally Invasive Procedures: Uterine artery embolisation cuts off the blood supply to fibroids, causing them to shrink.
- Surgery: Myomectomy (removal of fibroids) or hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) may be options for severe cases.
